SEO BLACKMAIL

Filed under: SCAMS — Leann Pass at 6:02 pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2006

“Your website will be banned and you will not be able to be found on Google not even with your company name”   “You want to be saved PAY ME !!!!  6-8 weeks”

DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION YET?

I hope so, because this effects all of us. We all know that some SEO con-artists (or any con-artists for that matter) will go to great lengths for the almighty dollar - but attempting BLACKMAIL / EXTORTION? NO WAY! I think the line has to be drawn here and now.

Yesterday one of my best clients (we’ll call MC -for ‘my client’- from here out) who’s been with us for about 3 years, called me about a Cold Call  she received from a “gentleman” claiming to be  Denis Glascon of Paramount Webmasters -about her website.

Now, keep in mind, we built MC’s site from the ground up, we actually run it  and have made it into an site that consistently ranks at the top in all the major search engines. At Increase Ranking, WE DO NOT SPAM and WE DO NOT LINK FARM - nothing funny going on here! Just a lot of hard work (and smart work, we like to think!)

Turns out that Dennis is a slick talking BSer that wanted to warn MC that “Your site is going to be banned by Google”.  MC is such a sweetie, INSTEAD OF HANGING UP like she should have, she just let him ramble for a bit.

Denis continued with lots of info about Google and informed her that her site is involved in Link Farming (of course it’s NOT!) and then was kind enough to email her some yuck page that contained a link to her site - explaining that for this reason she was “on the list” to be banned.

MC told me that “he started to sound very sincere - which caught my attention”. She even believed he was a Google rep!

Now, to anyone who KNOWS SEO, this guy is obviously a scammer. However, to those who do not know (most of the population) Slick Talkin’ Denis, who preys on emotion and fear, is apparently believable — at least to a point.

At this point, MC says ”This sounds serious! Could you talk to our website people so they can fix it? I’ll give you their number, I know they will want to know this!”

Denis Glascon explains to MC, that WE (us - Increase Ranking !) are the ones doing this to her, and we wouldn’t want to hear from HIM because we KNOW what we are doing! Fortunately, Denis’s stupid response threw up a BIG RED FLAG and clued MC in that Dennis was not actually concerned about HER site at all (imagine that!). She soon learned that Denis’s intention was to have her pay him to “fix” this problem - (you know, this problem which does NOT EXIST).

Now, that wouldn’t seem much different than most Scamming Cold Callers except that when Denis is turned down, he resorts to attempting BLACKMAIL / EXTORTION!

Just check out what Denis Glascon said to MC in his emails!

This is the email that Denis sent shortly after hanging up with MC. He is trying to SHOW HER how Google does indeed ban sites.

Questions for you…

What is your job in this company? Do you actually optimize sites yourself? Are you saying that just because that page has a link to us, we are in a link farm and we are getting banned? Can you tell me what a link farm is? Can you tell me what day we are scheduled for banning? Can you tell me how you would prevent the BAN?

I would like answers to these questions please.

Thanks again.

hey, oh my god that is insane. I can’t believe people would actually want to do that. I really want to get those guys arrested. Anywho, it was a great, well written blog, and I enjoyed it! How did you customize your picture like that? Or maybe it’s just simple and different and I thought you jazzed it up, haha. Anyway I’ll talk to you later, Chris :)

Did you did your homework and check to make sure some one was not saying they were Denis Glascon and sending your spoof emails or emails from a compromised email acount.

You may want to remove Denis Glascon’s name and the www. ParamountWebMasters .com domain until you verify that indeed it was Denis Glascon that you were talking to and not some one saying there were Denis. If it wasn’t Denis and www. ParamountWebMasters .com but his ex-girlfriends new boyfriend you may very well find yourself getting sued for slandering this company.

I will give Denis a call in the morning (if there is even a Denis working there) and let them know about this nasty post. There number is and they open at 8am EST (GMT-5) in the morning. I would suggest you give them a call first thing after you remove all references to the name, company etc.

Edited to remove the url to Bob’s site and to unlink Paramount Webmasters, and to remove the phone number. If you want to visit this poster, who is obviously Denis’s best friend - go to www . seocompany . ca

This has to be one of THE most underhand disgusting tactics I’ve heard of in this business.

Its a sad day when they start to resort to Blackmail to get business. This guy can’t be very good at SEO if he has to blackmail potential clients to get business because - he obviously can’t get them because he is good at what he does or he wouldn’t have to do this.

Once a scammer, always a scammer - i’m convinced that he has been perfecting his craft over the years and is propably one of the best black hat SEO’s around…

It is a great pity that people like this has been allowed to continue to do their dirty work.

SEO is suffering because of this and if we don’t do something, then we as SEO’s will suffer too…

Bob Mutch, why are you being ridiculous? Can’t you see that there was quite an email exchange between the parties even before Leann raised the issue? A spoofed address wouldn’t work in this case, would it?

Leann, great work! Keep on fighting! Just wanted to let you know that some of my friends (and myself) support you completely. (in case you don’t recognize from the name, I’m also known as Irony ;) )

I use to work for parmount, and I can’t believe that they would have hired somebody like him if they had known before hand that he was like that.

I would imagine that they will be talking to him about that and possibly terminating their relationship with him. Paramount has never done anything like that before and I know that their programmers do not use any black hat seo tricks, as I was one of those programmers.

It’s very sad to see that one bad apple really can spoil the whole bunch!

Are you sure that this is how the whole company operates? It might just be that one person who is “behaving badly” and that saidcompany is going to take the necessary action towards that individual.

Seems to me that everybody here is eager to jump the gun and point fingers and blame a whole company for one person’s mistakes.

I don’t know, maybe that’s just me but that’s what it sounds like.

I feel that you guy s were quick to crucify this guy and didn’t take the time to think before you start posting peoples names and if this lady was cheating to get her website to the top of search engines how come nobody thought to say that it makes any seo professional job that much harder

I’ve heard of seo companies hiring an army of telemarketers to bring in sales and some of these individuals usually came from scam telemarketing companies that operate for less than a year and close then reopen another telemarketing companies.

I won’t be surprised if some of them end up in seo companies because they’re tired of scamming senior citizens and some of them use the same tactics to achieve sales and a fat commission.

This doesn’t mean the whole company is guilty. I’m sure there are many of them who are serious about their work so they can earn a weekly paycheck and buy milk for their kids.

I just read your article and the other articles/blogs about Paramount Webmasters…unbelievable! I did some more researching of my own and I discovered this company at another site paramountweb.net. The only links on the site that work are the ones to their hosting company and paramountwebmasters.com. The site is advertised as “Your Partner in Link Building”…what a joke. I also found them in an outletfurniture site that looked link one giant link farm to me. My only question is why hasn’t Google banned them yet.

The email I posted is to my client. The other stuff I posted is through very superficial searching on Google using the company name and a few other keywords. It wasn’t that hard to find stuff on a company that has of late been attracting a lot of negative press in a community that knows how to hurt them where it counts…search engines.

Paramount Webmasters is a scam company. They called me at home about a year ago and offered to SEO my poker site. I said sure and paid about $1600 in six months. I got nothing. Zero hits. I actually learned a little about SEO myself and then questioned them as to their tactics. “Steve Parsons” the fella who runs this scan, knew nothing about SEO. He tried droping some phrases like “linking and SEO”, but he never even had a link page setup on my site after five months of supposdly doing SEO work. They suck! I am going through getting my refund now. Needless to say I was supposed to have it two months ago and they will not return my phone calls. I have complained to every person there I can and I keep getting redirected and then told that they will return my call. I am fed up and putting a package toegther for the New York State Attorney General.
By the way, he is not from Nigeria. I did some research and they in the States. I am not going to go into details because I am pursuing legal means.
